This picture pretty much sums up the current mood in these parts. It’s a combination of spring allergies, pleasant breezes and open windows, and having just done the half-marathon/5K walk/kids fun run (one for each of us). Also I am preliminarily tired due to the already bloated nature of our social calendar. Is it Michigan? Is it just that the spring involves way more birthdays? I can’t see a free weekend until like November. I really just want to take a nap.

This small person has gone back to sleeping badly–not the waking up every hour of the first two years of her life, but waking up at least once per night and taking forever to settle back down, whining about nonsense, blankets on and then off, I need my drink, etc. etc. For me, by the time she’s finally asleep I’m wide awake.
I toss around composing entries with all sorts of profound observations on parenthood until I can go back to sleep. Then if I get computer time, the observations are gone, or I get interrupted before I can type them out. I envy people who manage to document their kids’ early years better than I have. (I have a policy about not doing computer stuff in the middle of the night when everyone else is asleep–that doesn’t help with the getting back to sleep.)
Anyway we made it to three. Despite the sleep nonsense and other behavioral frustrations of late, we still like her and it will be pretty fun to see what comes next. Happy Birthday Maeve!

Pattern here.
So, our kid is turning three pretty soon. These are very exciting times. The quilt isn’t happening in time for this birthday, but there will be a mess-o-bunnies, to keep and to share. At this age, she…
- Has an independent little mind
- Eats pretty well compared to some kids, but…
- Likes treats (who doesn’t?)
- Knows at least four or five swear words
- Is pretty much potty trained (yeah!!)
- Is in to skunks, bugs, dinosaurs and lions
- Still wears size 7 shoes.
And a ton of other wonderful things.
Hooray for three!
