End of year self

Today is my last day at work for the year. It’s always kind of exciting to be closing up a year’s worth of filing (though I’ve only worked here since Sept.), and looking forward to fresh new files with “2008″ on them. And other nerdy things that warm an archivist’s heart. I learned today that the administration is moving me from 20 to 30 hours a week because they like a big digitization/web site project proposal I helped put together. I now move into the benefits-eligible territory. Hooray, retirement savings again!
At the end of this year I’m going to be saying goodbye to these eyeglasses, which have served me well for more than three years now. It’s time. The prescription is a bit different, and there is a great little optical shop in town that I’ve loved to support for a long time. I’m going to have these as my new frames, but in a color that’s not on that web site.
And I also have a bit of scrambling to do in the next couple of days to finish everything for the holidays. My immediate family is taken care of, even the cat (!), but there are a few gifts not checked off the list yet, and for that, we take a trip to a big local used book store. I hope they can hook us up, because I have no time for last minute knitted gifts!
Merry Christmas to all!
