Things to love

Happy weekend! And to my little brother, I can’t believe you’re 30 years old already!

And another milestone

I am pleased to announce that,
at the age of one year and four days,
Maeve finally
finally!
slept all the way through the night without waking up.
This is huge.
I may become a human again soon.

We made it.

My mom said during the birthday party, “You made it to one year without killing her.” I said yeah, but more importantly we made it to one year without killing each other.

Blowing out the candle

It was a super fun party, with three kinds of soups, some bread, the usual bowl of hummus, and veggies, and about 30 people or so. The cakes were awesome if I may brag briefly. Look at the Flickr pictures for evidence…(and more nice pictures here courtesy of friend Kirsten). Just about everyone we invited showed up, and we felt loved and like we’ve really made a place for ourselves here in Kalamazoo. It’s not that hard to do, but it’s kind of nice when you realize you’ve done it.

Just for fun, read my version of Maeve’s birth story, so melodramatic in retrospect. But…parenthood is full of all kinds of special drama! And all kinds of letting it all hang out! Read my truth, and enjoy.

And a bonus: Rodney’s version here.

Getting there

Somebody is turning one in a few days!

almost

That’s right. That explains why I’ve been away from the blog for a while. Lots of house cleaning/reorganization and other springlike activities going on, even though it sure isn’t very springy around here right now. At least it means I’m getting some wear out of the Buttony cardigan, which is super comfortable.

My Rusted Root is coming along slowly. I think when it’s done I might make a Maeve-sized Buttony next. I have some alpaca-blend hand-dyed yarn in the stash that would be perfect for it…but if the weather finally does warm up for good, who knows? On to less wooly pursuits, like some summertime sewing.

I’m also happy because I found a no-sugar canning book that does not rely on (in fact, discourages the use of) artificial sweeteners. When will the strawberries be ripe, already?? We’re on our last jar of jam, and only four or five more jars of applesauce are on the shelf…
