The Impostors

I love that movie. I wish Rodney and I were stowing away on a ship, but alas, we’ll be blasting off on American Airlines for Costa Rica tomorrow morning. Dear Rodney dusted off his Espanol and called up the Hotel Johnson in San Jose today. We will be staying in the cama matrimonia tomorrow night. Yeah, that’s the honeymoon suite!

The only thing about Costa Rica that’s a bit of a letdown is the fact that they don’t have a big fiber arts tradition. It’s more about the wood crafts, so instead of yarn maybe I’ll come back with a new salad bowl. We’ll see.

In any event, I will be making an appearance at the Michigan Fiber Festival the following weekend. I’ll be the tall girl with the brown hair and glasses.

See you in a couple weeks…

Another hat done

This is the first hat made with cheap acrylic yarn. I think it turned out pretty nice, if a bit big. One kind of annoying thing that worked out okay in the end is the color variation in this yarn. The label says nothing about it being space-dyed or whatever. You can see in the second picture how the whole middle section of the hat is more green. It looks fine in this case, but what if I was making a sweater or something? I’d be mad. So I’m still not convinced that I should quit being a yarn snob.

In other news, we’re getting ready for Costa Rica, kind of. The cat will be leaving for Michigan tomorrow morning…

Behind the green door

A little update for you.

Mom & dad were in town this weekend to do a few fix-ups around the apartment. They brought us 10 pounds of fresh blueberries! With my aunt and uncle, we went to Ravinia Fest on Saturday night too. It was nice but too crowded…

The fix-up attitude stuck around after we were dropped off, convincing Rodney we should paint our back door green. The fire escape is too small to allow me to photograph the whole door, but what do you think?

We’ll probably paint the door frame, the boarded-up transom above, and the milk door to the left some other color eventually.

I also bought some flower baskets that will hang along the edge of our fire escape, and some new plants for inside. This is all in honor of us renewing our lease. I think it’s the first time Rodney and I have ever renewed a lease in our lives!

Better monkey

Here’s a closeup of the monkey in a fez with bamboo fabric that I made my latest bag out of:
