Here are the only two pictures that turned out well from Rodney’s birthday weekend:

The cake, a german chocolate, was made from scratch. I’ve never made a cake that seriously required eight different bowls before! It was deceptively rich and dense.
Norm figured out how to tune my ukulele after we went to the Old Town School of Folk Music to get a pick, a pitch pipe, and a silly music book. Now it’s up to me to learn how to play it myself.

What follows is my opinion only.
Another thing I can’t comprehend: why half the big crochet web sites have religious content. Why? Look at the link on the top left of this page crochet & more.
Most crocheted things are pretty cheesy or scary, but I have to say that the few doilies and whatnot I have made so far have turned out really cool. I think it can be a good thing if you commit to quality yarn, colors, and creative styles. Too much crochet relies on connecting a bunch of granny squares, but it doesn’t have to be like that.

Yeah, it can be a manly art! Somebody even has a traveling exhibit on the subject.
What’s up with these guys being so awesome at things like the lace doilies and shawls?? And what’s up with that cosby style, Horst?

Sandy, my #1 commenter on Step Into My Thimble so far, has her own fiber blog now. Give her some love: moral fiber. Sandy is one of those lucky people that learned as a kid how to do all this stuff, and she taught me how to knit at the holidays this year.
Edited 2/27/03 to correct URL–have another look, the graphics really work now!
Edited again 6/29/04: Sandy’s site is basically static.
Come on Sandy, bring it back!

New! Go here to get the pattern in printable form (MS Word document).
Here are the four images that make up the Red Cross US Army sweater knitting pattern. They’re big. Considering that they are probably Government Printing Office documents, they will not be eligible for copyright protection and therefore you can download to your own machine to print them out more easily. In case you care about copyright (which really, you should).

It seems weird what with the world climate right now that I’m posting military knitting patterns. I’m not a war supporter in any way.
